Outloading Collection Requirements - For Steel Products Direct Customers

At Steel Products Direct, safety is our top priority — for you, for our team, and for everyone on the road. Steel is a heavy and potentially dangerous product if not transported correctly. To ensure a smooth and safe collection process, please review the following vehicle requirements and safety expectations before arriving to collect your order.

Your Responsibilities When Collecting Steel

  1. Bring a Suitable Vehicle
You must collect steel in a commercial vehicle that is:

  • Rated for the weight and dimensions of your order

  • Equipped with adequate load space

  • Fitted with approved lashing/strapping points

  • In safe, roadworthy condition

We do not allow collections in:

  • Cars, estate vehicles, or SUVs

  • Makeshift trailers or modified vehicles

  • Pickups without high sides or secure strapping systems

  • Vehicles with visible defects

  1. Understand the Legal Requirements
It is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle:

  • Meets all road weight limit and load securing regulations

  • Is appropriate for safe loading and unloading

  • Complies with UK transport laws for commercial goods

Before Collection

You will receive a phone call or confirmation email discussing:

  • Load weight and approximate dimensions

  • Suitable vehicle types

  • Site-specific safety protocols and PPE requirements

  • Our PPE requirements for collections are : fully covered arms and legs (No Shorts / Vests or T-Shirts), Hi-Vis , Hard Hat, Closed toe footwear (No Sandals or Flip Flops / Sliders) either steel toe caps or suitable boots/trainers.

Please contact us ahead of time if you’re unsure your vehicle is appropriate. We’re happy to help.

Unsuitable Vehicles Will Be Refused

For everyone's safety, we operate a strict refusal policy. If your vehicle is not suitable for safe loading and transportation, you will not be permitted to collect your order.

This avoids:

  • Risk of serious injury or fatality

  • Damage to goods and vehicles

  • Legal action or roadside penalties

  • Disruption to our operations and your business

Complacency has no place in steel transportation:

If you’re thinking:

  • “I’ll just throw it in the back.”

  • “It’s only a short drive.”

  • “I’ve done this before – it’ll be fine.”

Stop. These are warning signs that your vehicle may not meet safety standards.
