All you need to know about our FREE collection service

Outloading Collection Requirements

At Steel Products Direct, safety is our top priority — for you, for our team, and for everyone on the road. Steel is a heavy and potentially dangerous material if not transported properly. To ensure a smooth and safe collection process, please review the following requirements before arriving to collect your order.


Your Responsibilities When Collecting Steel

 

Bring a Suitable Vehicle

All collections must be made using a commercial vehicle that is:

  • Suitable Vehicles for collections are : Curtain Sided Vehicles, Hiab Vehicles and any open topped vehicle such as a Flat Bed. ALL vehicles must have a minimum bed length of 4m. 
  • Rated for the weight and dimensions of your order

  • Equipped with appropriate load space

  • Fitted with approved lashing or strapping points

  • In a safe, roadworthy condition

We do not permit collections for items over 25kg in:

  • Cars, Vans, estate vehicles, or SUVs

  • Makeshift trailers or modified vehicles

  • Pickups without high sides or proper strapping systems

  • Vehicles with visible defects


Understand the Legal Requirements

It is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle:

  • Meets all UK road weight limits and load securing regulations

  • Is suitable for safe loading and unloading

  • Complies with UK commercial goods transport laws


Before You Collect

You will receive a call or confirmation email to discuss:

  • Load weight and approximate dimensions

  • Suitable vehicle types for collection

  • Site-specific safety protocols and PPE requirements

Mandatory PPE for collection includes:

  • Fully covered arms and legs (no shorts, vests or t-shirts)

  • Hi-vis clothing

  • Hard hat

  • Closed-toe footwear (no sandals, flip-flops, or sliders)

  • Steel toe caps or sturdy safety boots/trainers

Please contact us in advance if you are unsure about your vehicle. We’re here to help.


Unsuitable Vehicles Will Be Refused

For everyone's safety, we operate a strict refusal policy. If your vehicle does not meet our safety standards, you will not be allowed to collect your order.

This helps prevent:

  • Risk of serious injury or fatality

  • Damage to goods or vehicles

  • Legal penalties for unsafe transportation

  • Disruption to your business and our operations


Don’t Take Risks

If you’re thinking:

  • “I’ll just throw it in the back.”

  • “It’s only a short drive.”

  • “I’ve done this before — it’ll be fine.”

Stop. These are signs that your vehicle may not meet safety requirements.
