Steel Products Direct supplies four core product ranges, each with specific delivery requirements:
Structural Steels / Hollow Sections and Merchant Bar (Angles,Flats and Squares)
Engineering Bar (Bright/Black Bar and Tool Steels)
Safety and Access products (Tubeclamps, GRP Products, Ladder Rungs, etc.)
Stainless Steel Balustrade and Glass (Fastec Handrail Systems)
Because these products are held in different UK locations, delivery costs and options will vary at checkout.
Standard delivery to mainland UK is £60 + VAT. Orders over £500 + VAT qualify for free delivery.
On average our deliveries are made on a 26T wagon (approx. 2.6m x 12m with a 9m bed). We DO NOT allow handballing of individual items over 100kg in weight. When ordering larger items, please ensure you can provide adequate mechanical lifting on-site (e.g., forklift, hired genie lift or crane) or sufficient manpower for safe offloading of items UNDER 100kg ( this is 1 person per 25kg of material). Our drivers do not assist with unloading.
Northern Ireland Delivery: A charge of £90 + VAT applies for General Steel orders under £500 + VAT.
Handballing is strictly only permitted for individual items under 100kg. If mechanical lifting is not available, a quote for HIAB delivery can be provided, please call or email to request this before placing your order.
Tubeclamps Standard delivery is £30 + VAT for all UK mainland orders under £300 + VAT. Orders over that threshold are delivered free.
These products cannot be collected from a site. Delivery outside mainland UK requires a custom quote - please contact our team.
If your basket includes both General Steel and Tubeclamp products:
You can choose to submit the order as a quote and we’ll help arrange delivery and/or collection options.
If both are delivered together, the standard £60 + VAT charge applies, unless your General Steel total exceeds £500 + VAT.
GRP / Ladder Rungs and Other Safety Products These are not delivered on our standard wagons and require a custom delivery quote. Submit your order as a quote, and we’ll contact you the same or next day to confirm delivery costs and arrange payment.
Standard delivery is £30 + VAT for UK mainland orders under £300 + VAT. Orders over this value qualify for free delivery.
Orders must be placed before 12pm for next-working-day dispatch. Longer items (tubes over 2.5m) incur a higher delivery charge of £60 + VAT. Free delivery for tube orders applies to baskets over £500 + VAT.
If your basket includes both Fastec and General Steel products:
You’ll be offered the option to submit as a quote and arrange delivery and collection separately.
If your basket includes both Fastec and Tubeclamps, separate charges apply unless your total order exceeds £300 + VAT.
Delivery outside mainland UK or to remote areas (e.g. Scottish Highlands) typically takes 2–3 working days.
General Steel and Engineering Bar: 2–5 working days (mainland UK)
Tubeclamps: Next working day for orders placed by 12pm (Mon–Fri)
Fastec Handrails: Next working day for orders placed by 12pm (Mon–Fri)
Please select your prefered delivery date and we will do our best to work to that, if a delay is expected due to stock or processing, we will contact you directly.
Place your order as usual, then call us on 020 4511 5540 quoting your order ID. We will prioritise your order where possible.
You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout once our standard 2–5 working day window has passed.
Deliveries take place Monday to Friday, between 9:00am and 5:00pm. We cannot offer timed delivery slots and do not delivery on a weekend as our sites are closed.
Click and collect is only available for General Steel and Engineering Bar products. Once your order is ready, we will contact you to arrange a collection slot. Please do not arrive on site without confirmation.
Please inspect your goods upon delivery. If damage or shortages are visible, sign the carrier’s delivery note as ‘DAMAGED’ or ‘MISSING ITEMS’. Notify us within 24 hours by phone or email, and include photographs where possible. Claims made after this window may be refused.
Some orders, particularly for Safety and Access or Fastec products, may be delivered by an independent haulier. If goods are refused on delivery without cause, both the outbound and return delivery charges will be deducted from any refund.
You may cancel your order within 14 days of receiving the goods. Returns must be made within 14 calendar days of notifying us, at your own cost unless the goods are faulty or incorrect. Items must be unused and in their original packaging.
Cut-to-size, made-to-order, or powder-coated steel is non-returnable unless faulty or incorrect.

If goods are in transit and not received within 7 working days of the expected date, you must contact us within the following 7 days. Claims outside this timeframe will not be accepted.
We reserve the right to apply extra delivery charges for large, long, or non-standard deliveries. We will contact you before dispatch if this applies.
We are not responsible for delivery delays caused by events outside our control, such as extreme weather, strikes, transport disruptions, or supply shortages.
