What are the costs of delivery?

As a business we supply four core product ranges:

Because these products are stored in different locations you will have different shipping costs and options available to you in the checkout process.

Safety and Access (Tubeclamps/GRP/Ladder Rungs) and Stainless-Steel Balustrade and Glass (Fastec Handrail Systems)

These products cannot be collected direct from our distribution partners, so the click and collection option is not available for these products. Both above products will be delivered to you directly through out supply chain across the UK.

Safety and Access Products

Standard delivery charge

All orders for (Tubeclamp clamp products) that fall under our £250 inc VAT free shipping level have a £25 inc vat delivery charge applied anywhere in mainland UK. For delivery outside of mainland UK please speak to our live chat advisors or call the team directly.

 - If your basket is “mixed” meaning you have General Steel and Tubeclamps in the same order and you want to click and collect your General Steel products you will be offered two options 1. Call our sales team to arrange a time to collect both from site or 2. Submit your order as a quote without paying upfront and our sales team will be in touch to advise you on your delivery and collection options. This will save you being charged the standard £60 ex vat delivery charge on General Steel products.

- If you simply want both your Tubeclamps and General Steel delivered you will be charged our fixed delivery cost of £60 ex vat unless your total order is over our free shipping level for General Steel products which is £500 ex VAT.

Safety and Access (GRP/Ladder Rungs/Handrail Standards/Mesh)

These products need to have a bespoke delivery cost quoted as they are not shipped on our standard steel wagons. Once you have added all these products to your basket simply submit the order as a quote. Our team will then contact you either the same or next day to confirm the shipping charge, by email or phone and will then take payment either via card or by BACS. 

Stainless-Steel Balustrade and Glass (Fastec)

Standard delivery charge

All UK Mainland orders for solely Stainless-Steel Clamps and Glass Clamp products (Fastec Handrail Systems) are despatched on a next-day courier service and are charged at £25 inc vat per order up to an order value of £250, at which point deliver is free to all mainland UK addresses.

Orders must be received by 12pm to be dispatched the same working day. Upgraded early and weekend time slots are available, but these will incur an additional charge and you must contact our customer service team as soon as your order has been placed with us.

Please note that due to the length of the "tube" products in our Fastec range they fall under the higher shipping category of £60 ex vat if you have tubes over 2.5m in your order. The free shipping level for stainless tubes is over £500 ex vat. 

For delivery outside of mainland UK please speak to our live chat advisors or call the team. Offshore as well as Scottish Highlands customers will receive a 2/3-day service due to their location. 

- If your basket is “mixed” meaning you have General Steel and Fastec Products and you want to click and collect your General Steel products you will be offered two options 1. Call our sales team to arrange a time to collect both from site or 2. Submit your order as a quote without paying upfront and our sales team will be in touch to organise your stainless products being delivered direct separately for £25 inc vat (unless your order is over £250 ex vat in order value and then Stainless and Glass product delivery is free). You will then also be able to arrange a time to click and collect your General Steel order from a local site.

- If your basket is “mixed” meaning you have Tubeclamps clamps and Stainless clamps both these products are despatched separately. You will need to pay the £25 inc vat standard delivery charge for Tubeclamps and Stainless clamps at checkout unless your total order is over £250 inc VAT and qualifies for free shipping.

Structural Steels / Mild Steel and Engineering Bar 

All orders for Structural Steel, Mild Steel and Engineering Bar products are £60 ex vat delivery as standard and will be delivered on a 17-tonne steel wagon measuring 3.05m x 8.05m. Free delivery is available on orders over £200 exc VAT. The following conditions apply to all delivered steel so please take note of these before placing your order with us or ask our team on the Live Chat for clarification.


It is your responsibility as the purchaser to offload the steel at your delivery location in a safe manner and to provide adequate labour and equipment for this purpose.

PLEASE NOTE: Our vehicles do not come equipped with lifting equipment (no forklift or Hiab) and our drivers are only employed to deliver your goods to the required location. You must be able to provide suitable mechanical lifting on site (crane/forklift) or have enough manpower on site at time of delivery to offload safely. Remember you also have the option of collecting from our site for FREE on a suitable vehicle or so you could hire a Hiab from a local supplier to collect and deliver your material for your project. We can recommend a company in central London. 

Handballing from the wagon is only allowable for items that are less than 100kg per lift (i.e., each beam or length of material) if you order items with a higher weight per piece you will need to have a mechanical lifting system available onsite before our drivers will let you commence unloading. If you do not have a mechanical lift available, we can provide a quote for a HIAB delivery.

If you have any concerns, please check with our sales advisors in advance of placing your order with us. Safety of our team and our customers is our highest priority.

Although the load has been checked for accuracy of orders and stability of load, the recipient must complete a further check before starting the offloading process, as the load may have moved during transit.


Unloading Checklist

The customer before ordering, delivery, and offloading needs to carefully consider the following areas:

  • Access restrictions
  • Position of vehicle on the road
  • Obvious hazards
  • Access onto the vehicle bed
  • The condition and stability of the load following transit.
  • Method of unloading
  • Size, weight, and balance of items being lifted.
  • The location of bystanders whilst unloading
  • Manual handling risks
  • Environmental Conditions (Temperature, Light, Wind, Snow & Rain etc)
  • The final destination of the material

You must be aware that although our processes with regards to the transportation, securing, delivery and packaging of our product is quality controlled, the very nature of our steel products produces latent residual hazards, for example, banding, burrs on the steel after cutting, protective coatings on the steel and residual shot blasting material within tubes and hollow sections, which have a potential to cause harm.

Please make sure you have adequate PPE such as: steel toe cap boots, hi-vis clothing, protective clothing, hand protection, eye protection and head protection.


When will you deliver?

We aim to keep all Structural, Mild Steel and Engineering Bar products listed on our website in stock across the UK to ensure a quick turnaround. and our standard delivery time is 2/5 working days on most products. England, Wales, and Central Scotland only. Occasionally, if we are awaiting stock of an item, or awaiting a processing slot, delivery may be extended by a few days, but this is rare due to our extensive network. If delivery of your order is going to be delayed longer than this one of our customer service staff will contact you to advise of the delay at the earliest stage.

For Safety and Access (Tubeclamp) products, delivery is next day on all orders placed on the site before 12pm Monday to Friday. Orders placed after 12pm on the Friday will not be delivered until the following Tuesday.

For Stainless Steel and Balustrade (Fastec Handrail Systems) products delivery is next day on all orders placed on the site before 12pm Monday to Friday. Orders placed after 12pm on the Friday will not be delivered until the following Monday.


I need it quick what should I do?

If you need your order quickly, simply place the order online as normal, then call our customer service team on 020 4511 5540 quoting your order ID number and we will prioritize your order where possible. Also please use our Live Chat to check stock and estimated lead times.


Can I have delivery on a specific day?

If you need products on a specific day the site does let you select a delivery date once our standard 2/5 working day terms have passed. Please use the Preferred Delivery Date selector to plan a date in advance.


Can I specify a time for delivery?

Unfortunately, due to the size and weight of some of our orders we are unable to offer timed delivery slots, deliveries are made between 09.00 and 17.00 Monday to Friday excluding UK Bank Holidays.

All goods are delivered to the address stated at the time of ordering. We aim to deliver your goods (if they are in stock) as soon as possible within approximately 2 to 5 working days (this is only an estimate, and it may be sooner). Our team will be in touch to advise on a delivery date for your specific order. Our products are sent out in good faith and occasionally goods are misrouted, lost in transit or may be subject to delays beyond our control. 

Please Note: If the contents of your order are for installation on site, we do not recommend you schedule any work or book any contractors until you have received and checked the goods. We cannot be held responsible or be liable for any losses, damages, charges, compensation or expenses as a result of any delay in delivery. 

If we do not have your item(s) in stock or our distributers are out of stock, there may be a delay on your order. Should this be the case, we will contact you by the email address or phone number you provided at the time of ordering and advise you accordingly as soon as we are aware of the situation.

You will have the option of cancelling your order and any payments including any delivery charges will be refunded. We will not refund the original delivery cost or the cost of us delivering the goods if you received free delivery. Refunds are made by the same method as the original payment was made.


Delivery by Haulier

Occasionally we may ship your goods by independent haulier, this is usually if you order Safety and Access of Stainless Steel and Glass Products. If you refuse the goods at the time of delivery you will be required to cover the cost of the original transportation to you and the return cost back to us, this will be deducted from any monies to be refunded.

Steel Products Direct and our distribution partners send all goods out in good faith. We would advise you to accept and check any deliveries within 12 hours of receipt and contact us on 020 4511 5540 immediately if you believe there are any damages, errors or omissions with the order, and we will arrange to rectify this. Should any parcels have obvious damage, please sign the carrier’s proof of delivery as DAMAGED. Failure to report shortages or damage within 24 hours means that we cannot raise a claim with the carrier and may result in your claim being refused. If you refuse a delivery for any reason, we reserve the right not to dispatch any further goods until the refused delivery has been returned to us. We also reserve the right to charge for any further deliveries. Each query regarding deliveries will be assessed separately.

Please note: 

We reserve the right to apply additional delivery charges on orders that are heavy, long or being delivered to a non-standard UK mainland address. We will contact you on receipt of your order if any additional charges apply prior to the order being dispatched.


Force Majeure

Steel Products Direct is not liable for any delay of your order due to circumstances beyond our control. These include but are not limited to an act of God, war, terrorism, strikes, trade disputes, breakdown of equipment, fire, flood, explosion, earthquake, civil disturbance, riots, accidents, storm, shortages, difficulty in obtaining material, disruption to energy supplies, telephone supplies, road traffic problems, severe weather conditions.


Receipt of goods

All packages are thoroughly checked and wrapped before leaving our premises and are delivered to you by our distributers. Once the goods have been signed for, we accept no responsibility for any loss or damage as the goods are now in your possession. On receipt of goods, please check your package carefully, should your goods or the packaging be damaged, or items are missing the carrier’s delivery note must be signed DAMAGED or MISSING ITEMS. If this is the case you should contact us as soon as possible, within 24 hours, so we can investigate and resolve any queries, either by email on or on our telephone support number 020 4511 5540.

All claims for wrong, faulty, damaged or missing items must be submitted within 24 hours of you receiving the goods, please take photographic evidence if possible, showing any damage to packaging and the contents inside, by contacting us quickly it allows us to investigate and resolve any issues. Failure to report damage and shortages within 24 hours may result in your claim being refused and all goods will be deemed to have been delivered in good order. Please also note the following:

  • If the goods are delivered damaged, we may require evidence of the damage, e.g., photographs before we replace the goods or make a refund. Please contact Customer Services on 020 4511 5540 to discuss.
  • If your goods are delivered damaged, we will replace them or make a refund providing that the goods have not been used. If the goods have been used, they will be deemed fit for purpose and we reserve the right not to replace or make a refund.
  • If your goods are delivered damaged, we reserve the right to collect the damaged goods from the delivery address stated on your order.
  • If the goods are to be collected this may be on a different day to any replacement goods being delivered.


If your package is returned to us undelivered, we will not be held responsible or be liable for any compensation for any losses, damages, charges, or expenses as a result of any delay of delivery. We may charge to redeliver the parcel to you.


Click and Collect Service

If you would like to collect your goods from us to save on carriage costs, we will contact you to inform you that your goods are ready to collect. Please do not travel to any of our distributor sites without contact from Steel Products Direct to confirm a collection slot. We cannot be held responsible if you arrive and the goods are not ready.



  • You have 14 days to cancel your order from receipt of the goods.
  • You shall send back the goods or hand them over to us at a distributor specified by Steel Products Direct when you contact us without undue delay and all returns MUST be made within 14 calendar days of you telling us that you are cancelling your order. For example, if you told us on Monday 1st of January that you were cancelling your order you would then have until Monday 15th of January to return the goods to us.

The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired.

  • If you wish to return an item for any reason except being faulty or we have sent the wrong goods we will only accept items that are on our current stock list. Any steel that has been specially cut to your size/requirements cannot be returned.
  • Once your order has been cut to your requirements, we are unable to cancel the order even if the goods have not been dispatched.
  • We are unable to accept return of powder coated products unless they are faulty, or we have sent the wrong goods.
  • If you wish to return an item to us, please contact Customer Services on 020 4511 5540 or on BEFORE returning any item.
  • Please be aware that should you wish to return an item for any reason other than it being faulty or we have sent the wrong goods you will need to arrange for the goods to be returned to us either by post or courier and this will be at your own cost. We appreciate it may be difficult to arrange to return some longer lengths of metal, (i.e., over 3m long) and in these circumstances we may be able to arrange collection by our couriers at your cost. However, please note that we will not be held responsible, and no compensation claims will be entered into for any non-collection, missed collection or no-show by our couriers.
  • If you paid for your original delivery, we would refund the original delivery cost to you (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us). We will not refund the original delivery cost or the cost of us delivering the goods if you received free delivery.
  • Any items to be returned should be in the original packing and be unused. We will not accept any items that have been used, cut, damaged and are not in a re saleable condition.
  • We reserve the right to recover any amount up to the contract price of any items returned to us in a damaged state or if the value of the goods is diminished by any amount because of you handling the goods beyond what is necessary to check the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
  • Any refund will only be made once we are in receipt of the goods, or you have supplied evidence of having sent the goods back whichever is the earliest. Any refunds are made by the same method as the original payment was made. We aim to process your refund as soon as possible.
  • If you return goods to us for a refund, we reserve the right to deduct or adjust any discount applied at the time of ordering. If the value of the returned goods brings the value of the original order under the discount threshold, all discounts will be deducted from the refund as the order no longer qualifies for discount, if the returned items reduce the original order value into a lower discount category, the value of the refund will be adjusted by the difference in discount category value. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we have had to introduce this condition due to some customers over ordering to qualify for discount and then returning goods to us for refunds.

Goods lost in transit

Please allow 7 working days for goods to be delivered once you have been notified that they are in transit to you. If after this time you have still not received your goods, please contact us within 7 days of the expected delivery date for us to investigate. If you do not contact us by email on within this time frame, it is expected that the goods have been delivered in good order and no claim will be entertained.

Sourced Goods

We will try source any goods you request of us by using our contacts within the industry. Any goods supplied by us will be under contract and a quantity and price will be agreed by both parties before any orders are placed with our suppliers or accepted. In this situation should the goods be faulty we reserve the right to negotiate with our supplier before any credits are agreed with our customer.

This may be outside the 14-day time frame stated in these terms and conditions, but we will do everything possible to keep time limits to a minimum. Any special sourced goods are non-returnable unless the product is faulty. We appreciate that ordering goods is a two-way process between our customers and Steel Products Direct. We endeavour to ensure orders are correctly interpreted but occasionally there may be miscommunication. We will do our very best to make sure your order is correct but as part of the process we also ask you to check the confirmation we send to you by email to ensure that you are satisfied. We cannot be held responsible if you do not inform us immediately of any changes prior to us placing any orders with our suppliers or distributors.
