A Universal Column, also known as UCs, lintels, girders, rolled steel joints, RSJ’s, H beam, H sections, continental columns, and steels, is a single piece of steel used in construction and manufacturing.

Universal columns are mainly used for columns, however, their small depth compared to universal beams make them ideal load bearing members when height is limited.

A Universal column is structured to hold loads along its vertical axis and resist twisting.

Our wide selection of steel beams for sale are S355 grade which describes hot-rolled structural steel with 355N/mm^2 minimum yield strength (BSEN 10025-2: 2004). Also known as BS 50B. Suitable for projects required to meet EXC2 of EN 1090.

Unlike universal beams, universal columns have an equal height and width measurement. Our Universal columns are part of our steel structural sections range.

So that you comply with building regulations, you will need a structural engineer to calculate the loading and supply you with loading certificate and the necessary dimensions. Unfortunately, our team are unable to advise you on the size you require for your project.

Cutting, Drilling and Painting

You can purchase Universal Columns / H Beams in standard lengths of 6m, 12.5m, or 14m, or we can cut them to any size you require. If you need painted steel beams or holes drilled, please select that option when ordering.
