RSJ Steel Beam Calculator

Whether you’re constructing a building, renovating, or adding structural support, choosing the right steel beam is crucial.

Are you looking to work out RSJ steel prices and sizes for your construction project or home extension?

Whether you’re constructing a building, renovating, or adding structural support, choosing the right steel beam is crucial. But figuring out the correct weight, size, and length can be a bit challenging.

Steel Products Direct simplifies this process with its built-in Steel Beam Cost Calculator. Let’s dive into how it works:

STEP 1

Scenario 1: You are starting from scratch and have no idea what type of steel beams you need for your project.

First you need a list of the steel beams required for your project. Without this, we cannot provide a price.

If you’re just starting from scratch and literally have no idea what size steel beam you need, then you can either employ a structural engineer to do the calculations for you, or you can use one of the online services listed below.

The online services will calculate exactly what weight, size and length steel beams you need for your project.

Please note, these links are for external companies who we have no relationship with, and we are not responsible for the service you receive:

Once you have a list, it’s onto Step 2 down below!

Scenario 2: You have architect or structural engineer plans for your project.

First you need a list of the steel beams required for your project.

Typically, the type of drawings you received for your project from your architect or structural engineer aren’t suitable for us to be able to offer a quote.

What we need is a list of the types of steel beams you need, along with the lengths required. If you need holes drilling, you need to find out how many holes and if you need them primer painted, you need to know this too.

You should be able to get that information from whomever provided you with the drawings.

Once you have a list, it’s onto Step 2 below!

Scenario 3: You have a list of the steel you need, along with the required lengths.

Perfect, you’re winning this game! Now move to Step 2 below!

STEP 2

Now you have the list of steel beams you need, along with their sizes; you can then hop over to our RSJ steel beam page and select the RSJ beams you need for your project.

You can enter the length of the required steel beam and get a price.

There’s no need to wait for quotes. Our smart technology calculates instant steel beam prices while you’re adding products to your basket. You’ll get accurate prices quickly.

If you need additional services, like the beam’s primer painted

or holes drilling in them, press Next and select what you need and Add to Basket.

For hole drilling, we will contact you when we receive the order to find out exactly where you need the holes drilled.

We’ve listed some of the more common RSJ beams below – if one of these matches the beams on your list, just click the link and go directly to the product page.

UNIVERSAL BEAM SIZES

Universal Beam Sizes

A RSJ universal beam, also known as an I beam or a rolled steel joist, is a single piece of steel used in construction and manufacturing. It offers support during the construction of an extension or when creating an opening in a load-bearing wall. They are often known as steel support beams.

So that you comply with building regulations, you will need a structural engineer to calculate the loading and supply you with loading certificate and the necessary dimensions. Unfortunately, our team are unable to advise you on the size you require for your project.

If you do not see the beam you need in this list, please navigate to our RSJ steel page where we have more sizes available. This is just a list of the common sizes we typically supply.

UNIVERSAL COLUMN SIZES

Universal Column Sizes

A Universal Column, also known as UCs, lintels, girders, rolled steel joints, RSJ’s, H beam, H sections, continental columns, and steels, is a single piece of steel used in construction and manufacturing.

Universal columns are mainly used for columns, however, their small depth compared to universal beams make them ideal load bearing members when height is limited.

A Universal column is structured to hold loads along its vertical axis and resist twisting.

PLEASE NOTE

Welding: we are a steel supplier, not a fabricator, so we can supply steels at great prices, but we do not offer any welding or fabrication services. We can supply the steel beams and we can supply the steel plates cut to your requirements, but any welding will have to be undertaken by yourself or your contractors.

Drilled holes: we can supply steel beams with holes drilled to your specification. Please see Step 2 for how to order those.

Painted beams: we can supply all steel beams either self-coloured or primer painted.  Please see Step 2 for how to order those.
